Other Important Ion Channels in CF

While mutations in CFTR are causative of CF, there are other ion channels that contribute to both normal and disease conditions.  These inlcude the epithleial sodium channel (ENaC), the solute linked carriers (SLC26A), and anoctamin (TMEM16A/ANO1). The activites of these proteins are either regulated by or augment those of CFTR and contribute to changes in pH buffering and fluid secretion in multiple epithelial tissues.
