Full-length ABC transporters

Structures of homologous ABC-transporters provide insight into the conformational changes associated with nucleotide binding and the transport cycle.  Human ABC transporters, including CFTR, are most similar to the bacterial exporters that contain 12 transmembrane helices in their cores.  The prokaryotic ABC importers are more divergent, showing alternative topologies and organizations of the transmembrane domains.   Links to the structures of nucleotide bound and free transporters in inward and outward conformations are provided below for both exporters and importers.
